The city of Fountain Valley’s Personnel Division provides services to
both internal (employees and departments) and external (public)
customers.
I have asked Personnel Manager Jean Hirai to give us a snapshot of the
various personnel division responsibilities:
Personnel’s internal focuses are administering employee benefits such as
medical, dental, life insurance, long-term disability, retirement and
employee assistance programs; Workers’ Compensation; the employee
compensation plan; labor relations (negotiations); employee recognition
such as service awards, retirements and special recognition programs;
employee discipline; grievances and a variety of special programs and
services.
In regard to special programs and services, the division administers the
employee’s Rideshare program; is a member of the city’s Safety Task
Force; prepares and distributes the employee newsletter; conducts
applicable employee drug and alcohol testing; administers the city’s
employee training and development program; administers the city
employees’ suggestion program; and presents the annual employee health
and Rideshare fair.
The division’s external recruitment and placement efforts include the
recruitment, processing and hiring of all full-time and part-time
employees for the city.
Recruitment fliers for vacant city jobs are listed on the city’s web page
at https://www.fountainvalley.org, or interested candidates may call the
city’s job line at 593-4409 24-hours a day to find out the positions for
which the city is recruiting.
The city does require that a completed application be submitted by the
final filing date noted on the recruitment flier for consideration.
We have great summer jobs available now, as well as jobs ranging from
tree trimmer to police officer, clerical to firefighter, engineer to
building inspector.
Remember, Fountain Valley is a full-service city. If an applicant is
interested in a position not currently vacant, they may complete an
interest card that will be kept on file until there is a vacancy. When a
vacancy occurs, they will be notified and an application will be mailed
to them.
Interest cards are available in person or you may call 593-4506 to
request that an interest card be completed for you.
If you are not sure which city positions you would be interested in and
qualified for, you may come to the Personnel Division during regular
business hours and look through the job description book of all city
positions and then complete an interest card.
In addition to jobs with the city of Fountain Valley, recruitment fliers
are available from other area agencies and job seekers are welcome to
come into the City Hall lobby and review them during business hours.
