SPOTLIGHT

ORANGE COUNTY FAIR 2001

Pig races? They’ve got ‘em. Pie-eating contest? Check. Pony rides?

Definitely. From the scary Lemon Drop and a 15-story tall Ferris wheel to

agriculture exhibits, performing pups and a display of miniature houses,

The fair, which opens Friday, is a 17-day extravaganza with the theme

“Twist and Shout -- Celebrate Citrus and Sun.” There will be contests of

every sort -- from the nightly Twister competitions to golden grapefruit

bowling. The exhibits run from the mundane (goats and hamsters) to the

exotic (rare fruits and bees, interactive art).

Did we mention the nightly concerts featuring performances from Big

Bad Voodoo Daddy, Tanya Tucker, Billy Ray Cyrus, Hall and Oates, R.E.O.

Speedwagon and more?
