Different Drummer closing its doors

Different Drummer in Laguna Beach will be closing its doors after 15

years in business.

“We’re closing due to the economic fall out after Sept. 11,” said Rob

Merrell, co-owner of Different Drummer books. “Laguna business has

suffered ever since and a lot of businesses have been on the margin.”

Merrell and his business partner Jim Whitmoyer bought the store in

1998. They do not foresee plans for a reopening or relocation.

The store will officially close on July 31. All books will be marked

down 20% until July 18, 30% from July 19 to 25 and 50% from July 26 to
