Jr. Pee Wee Dolphins advance in playoffs

The Huntington Beach Jr. Pee Wee Division Dolphins advanced in Jr.

All-American Football postseason play by virtue of a 42-0 rout of the

Orange East Chiefs last Saturday.

The Dolphins, the No. 2 seed out of the AFL B Division, will meet

the Irvine Chargers, AFL B No. 3, Saturday at 7 p.m. in Corona.

The second-round game will cap a six-game schedule, which begins

at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Corona High.

The Jr. Pee Wee Dolphins will be one of two Huntington Beach teams

in action on Saturday.

The Jr. Midget Dolphins, who received a first-round bye, get their

first taste of postseason play when they take on the Inglewood

Jets-Green in a 3 p.m. kickoff at Los Nietos Park in Santa Fe

Springs.

Huntington Beach is the No. 2 team out of the AFL Atlantic

Division, Inglewood the No. 3 seed.

In other playoff action last Saturday, three Huntington Beach

teams were eliminated.

In Pee Wee Division play, the Dolphins, the No. 6 seed out of the

AFL A Division, lost to the Inglewood Jets-Green (AFL A No. 3),

26-12, in Buena Park. In a first round Jr. Clinic game, Huntington

Beach (AFL B No. 7) fell to Mission Viejo Cowboys-White (AFL B No.

2), 31-0, in a game held in South Gate, and in Clinic Division

action, Huntington Beach (AFL B No. 6) was defeated by the South Gate

Rams (AFL B No. 3), 37-14, in a contest played in Mission Viejo.

In Pop Warner Football action:

Huntington Beach 12, Santa Margarita 6

Alec Kirschner and Dillon Petrarca each rushed for a touchdown as

the Jr. Pee Wee Green Chargers downed the Eagles.

Jullien Herrera led Huntington Beach in rushing with more than 100

yards, 60 of which came on a run that set up Petrarca’s two-yard

score.

Herrera also played on defense and came up with a key interception

to thwart a Santa Margarita drive as the Eagles were moving in for a

potential tying touchdown.

Petrarca, Richard Nobella, Todd Smith, Tyler Troya, Trevor McKeen

and Chris Miller also turned in strong defensive performances for the

Green Chargers.
