Breakers fall in water polo, girls volleyball

Laguna Beach High’s boys’ water polo team jumped out to a quick

two-goal lead on Esperanza in Tuesday’s nonleague match, but the host

Breakers stormed back in the final three periods to take an 11-5

victory.

Laguna led, 4-2, after one quarter of play. Esperanza, however,

outscored the Breakers, 9-1, over the final two quarters.

In girls’ volleyball Tuesday, Laguna fell to host and

league-leading Northwood, 25-15, 25-16, 25-15.

In girls’ tennis, Laguna rebounded from its first loss of the

season to score a 14-4 victory over Northwood in PCL play.

Katie Oschwat, Jackie Reed and Kellie Ammerman each won twice in

singles play and the doubles team of Lauren Thigpen and Kendall

Arrington earned a sweep over their Timberwolves opponents.

In the latest CIF Southern Section rankings, four Laguna teams

reside among the Top 10 in their respective sports.

The highest rankings belong to the Breakers’ boys’ and girls’

cross country teams, each of whom come in at No. 3 in Division IV.

The girls’ tennis team is ranked No. 5 in Division I and the

girls’ volleyball team is No. 8 in Division IVAA.
