Locals aplenty as Ojai begins

The 104th Ojai Valley tennis tournament begins today with several

local players beginning the action.

Newport Beach resident and Mater Dei High senior Kaes Van’t Hof

opens at 9:30 a.m. today at the Ojai Valley Tennis Club against

Stefan McKinney of Rio Mesa in the CIF boys singles division. Van’t

Hof reached the division final last year.

Newport Harbor teammates Tyler Deck and Charlie Farmer, along with

the Corona del Mar duo of Jonathan Kroopf and Ryan Caughren, begin

play in the CIF boys doubles division today while Elizabeth Van’t

Hof, Kaes Van’t Hof’s sister, teams with Leslie Bullock in the girls

18s doubles draw.

Newport Harbor seniors Bonnie Adams and Vanessa Dunlap, who teamed

to claim the Sea View League girls doubles championship last fall,

begin play in the girls 18s singles draw Friday and today,

respectively. Adams’ first-round opponent withdrew.

Adams’ sister, Carly, and Newport teammate Sasha Dunlap begin play

today in girls 16s singles, which also features Corona del Mar

teammates Jill Damion and sisters Miranda and Hayley Young.

Robert Khoury, Jake Fleming and Ruslan Serydyk, teammates on

Newport’s boys tennis squad, open play in the boys 16s singles

bracket.

Orange Coast College teammates Leah Becker and Sabrina Tanamal,

who claimed the Orange Empire Conference women’s doubles championship

last week, begin play today in both the women’s community college

singles and doubles divisions. Coast teammates Kai Moriyama and Thao

Ho are also entered in the doubles draw. Moriyama will also compete

in singles.

Newport Harbor boys tennis coach Jeff Thomsen will compete in both

singles and doubles of the men’s open division while Newport Beach

resident Carsten Hoffman and Costa Mesa resident Julie Shapiro are

entered into the men’s and women’s open doubles draws, respectively.

Corona del Mar residents Rachel Cox and Alexandria Walters are

entered in the girls 14s singles bracket while Newport Beach

residents Chris Damion and Oscar Matthews, along with Costa Mesa

resident Charlie Alvarado, begin play today in boys 14s singles

action.
