Tee-off time in Costa Mesa

The 16th annual Costa Mesa junior golf championships tees off today

at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club’s Mesa Linda course, with times

beginning as early as 7 a.m.

Newport-Mesa area golfers are scattered in seven boys and girls

divisions.

Among the returners from last year’s event include Katie

McKitterick, who finished fifth in the girls 15-17 age division last

year. McKitterick, part of Corona del Mar High’s Pacific Coast League

girls golf championship team last fall, will be paired with Newport

Beach’s Jessica Milner. They have a 10:45 a.m. starting time.

Costa Mesa resident Ryan Knapp placed fourth by four shots last

year in boys 12-13 and moves up to the 14-15 division this year.

Younger brother Jacob Knapp finished sixth in the boys 11- and-under

division last year and will have to rise early this year. The younger

Knapp is paired with Hale Furey from Newport Coast in a foursome at 7

a.m.

David Su and Justin Morehead, teammates on CdM’s boys golf team,

are grouped together in a boys 16-17 foursome that will tee off at

7:22 a.m. Morehead finished 11th in the boys 14-15 age group last

year.

Other foursomes featuring two Newport-Mesa residents include Kelly

Kawata and Michelle Drucker in girls 15-17 at 11:07; Jungwon Kim of

Newport Beach and Katharine Hanson of CdM in girls 12-14 at 11:07;

Karine Shaw of Newport Coast and Kelly Moorhead of Newport Beach in

girls 12-14 at 11:22; Sean Shaw of Newport Coast and Eli Gomez of

Costa Mesa in boys 11- and-under at 7:07.

Local residents competing include Jack Francis of Newport Beach in

boys 16-17 at 7:52; Stewart Hagestead of Newport Beach in boys 14-15

at 8 a.m.; Andrew Ayala of Costa Mesa in boys 14-15 at 9:07; Braden

Cluck of Newport Beach in boys 14-15; Newport Beach residents Tanner

Trauthen and Mike Moorehead Jr. in boys 12-13 at 10:15 and 10:22, respectively; Lauren Draganza of Costa Mesa in girls 12-14 at 11:15

and Ashley Peters of Costa Mesa in girls 11- and-under at 7:37.
