NEWPORT BEACH — Three players scored goals for the Sailors in their nonleague victory Thursday.

Junior midfielder Emily Ohlhaver scored on a penalty kick. Junior Crystal Mena scored off an assist from freshman Gillan Hogan.

Senior Alex Conley scored with an assist from senior Lindley Wren for Newport Harbor (4-3).

Senior Mary Giberson had five saves. Sailors Coach Josh Brooks said that senior Emily Leece “played outstanding.”

COSTA MESA — The Eagles rebounded from a tough loss to Tesoro in dominating fashion Thursday.

Freshman Jillian Beck led Estancia with three goals.

Junior Stacy McDaniels scored twice, as did freshman Nushin Tasbichi, and junior Avery Williams.

McDaniels also colleceted two assists for the Eagles (4-4-1).

Sophomore Abby Scheafer contributed an assist and the Eagles’ defense kept the goalkeeper from having to make a save in the shutout.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Costa Mesa 72, San Clemente 60

ANAHEIM — Larry Puente’s 32 points led the Mustangs to a wide-margin victory over San Clemente in the fourth round of the North Orange County Championships at Troy High Thursday.

Tommy Duong had 15 points for the Mustangs (6-2) who took a 17-point lead into the fourth quarter.

ANAHEIM — Jamie McGee scored 17 points to help lead the Lightning to the pool-play victory in the Fairmont Prep Tournament Thursday.

Preston Oklejas scored 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out four assists for Sage Hill (4-4). Nick Witte added 10 points for the Lightning, who shot 24 of 38 from the field.

Sage Hill faces Sherman Indian today at 4:30 p.m. as pool play continues in the eight-team tournament.

CORONA DEL MAR — Ashley Kirby scored a game-high 34 points, but the Sea Kings were outscored 7-2 in the overtime period of their nonleague loss Thursday.

CdM Coach Mark Decker said the Sea Kings had “a couple good looks with eight seconds left, but didn’t knock them down,” before regulation play ended with a 51-51 tie.

Allie Duernberger finished with eight points, eight assists and four steals. Susan Moheimani also scored eight points for CdM (4-4)

The Sea Kings will resume play Tuesday in the Ocean View Christmas Classic.
