College hosts ‘Baby’ show of top illustrators

Share

Laguna College of Art & Design will present a group show, “You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby,” from Thursday Feb. 1 through Tuesday Feb. 27 at the college gallery.

The show, curated by Murray Tinkelman, can be described as a “family album” of contemporary American illustrators. Sixty illustrators exhibit self-portraits depicting themselves at some point between birth and puberty — they’re shown as cutesy toddlers, dorky brats, or punky prepubescents.

The show debuted at the Society of Illustrators in New York City this past October and includes such legends as Bart Forbes, Jack Davis (MAD Magazine), C.F. Payne, Nancy Stahl and Bunny Carter. Styles of illustration include painting, digital and photo-realism, caricature animation, drawing and collage.
