A capsule look at the 2007 Breakers

  • Head coach: Dave Dopf (3rd year)
  • Coaching staff: Josh Reidt
  • 2006 overall record: 13-12
  • 2006 league record: 7-5 (4th-tie).
  • CIF results: none
  • Returning starters: Nathan Pickett, P/OF, Sr.; Trevor Pierce, OF, Sr.; Dominick Robusto, 2B, Sr.; Dalton Sype, SS/P, Jr.; Dillon Pierce, OF, Soph.
  • Remaining roster: Bill Sanders, C, Sr.; Gabe Stansbury, C, Soph.; Mike Bradvica, P, Sr.; Alex Gillette, 1B, Jr.; Rob Cortright, 3B, Jr.; Zach Nuno, P/OF, Jr.; Julian Deline, P/OF, Jr.; Devin Dowdy, OF, Jr.; Ryan Pigden, OF, Sr.
  • Outlook: “This year’s team has some depth on the mound,” Dopf said. “(Nathan) Pickett will be our ace and (Mike) Bradvica, (Zach) Nuno and (Julian) Deline will battle it out for the No. 2 spot in the rotation. Defensively we are fundamentally sound. With the combination of our pitching and defense, we will be able to limit the number of runs we give up each game. Our hitting may be suspect. We do not have much power in the line-up but as long as we execute on offense, we should be able to manufacture plenty of runs.
  • “Plain and simple, I like our chances. We should make the playoffs and I think we have enough to win the league. If anything else, we should set a new record for wins in a season at Laguna Beach High.”

  • Season opener: Today, 3 p.m. at Buena Park (first round, Newport Elks Tournament).
  • Home opener: Saturday, 10 a.m., vs. Valley Christian (second round, Newport Elks Tournament).
