A 25-year-old man is out of police custody after being arrested on suspicion of raping a woman near Main Beach at 4:51 p.m. Oct. 23.

Kevin Joseph McCormick, an East Coast resident, allegedly used a razor to frighten the victim, an Anaheim woman, into submission after she went for a walk with him on the beach, Sgt. Darin Lenyi said.

The woman, who is in her 40s or 50s, told police she met the suspect at the beach and began talking with him, and walked on the sand south to a secluded area where he allegedly threatened her. The victim cut her hand attempting to escape but could not, Lenyi said. After the rape, the victim contacted police and was treated for injuries.

The suspect was in the vicinity and police arrested him and took him to jail, but he was released before the case could be given to the district attorney’s office for possible prosecution.

McCormick had been arrested previously Oct. 21 on a charge of disturbing the peace and pleaded guilty to that charge, according to court records. The suspect had been in Laguna Beach a couple of weeks, Lenyi said.
