The 2007 prep football season comes to an end tonight for the Laguna Beach Breakers.

Laguna concludes Orange Coast League play against Estancia.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Newport Harbor High’s Davidson Field.

Estancia can wrestle away the league championship won last year by Laguna with a win over the Breakers.

Laguna will be looking to end its season on a winning note: The Breakers have dropped seven-straight since defeating La Quinta of Westminster, 31-22, Sept. 7.

Estancia improved to 2-0 in league Nov. 2 by routing rival Costa Mesa, 41-13. The Eagles’ rushing game overpowered the Mustangs and was headed by Carlos Mendez who plowed his way for 289 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Radames Gutierrez also threw a pair of touchdown passes, both to his favorite target of the night, Ryan Redding.

Laguna, meanwhile, fell to 0-2 in league play Nov. 2 after dropping a 23-12 decision to visiting Calvary Chapel in the Breakers’ homecoming game. It was the first win of the year for Calvary Chapel.

The Eagles iced the game after Brandon Snook scored on a screen pass late in the fourth quarter, taking his team from a slim 17-12 lead, into a 23-12 advantage.

Zach Smith had scored on a one-yard run in the first quarter to give Laguna a 6-0 lead, but Calvary Chapel scored the next 17 points over the second and third quarters, to take a 17-6 lead into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, quarterback Charley Bowman scored on a sneak to bring the Breakers to within 17-12.

The 12 points are the most scored by the Breakers since a 35-24 nonleague loss to Segerstrom Sept. 21.
