Laguna boy’s soccer wins, 4-2

The Laguna Beach boys’ soccer team held its first scrimmage of the year Monday (Nov. 19) and scored a 4-2 victory over host Dana Hills.

Laguna’s scoring was spread out evenly between Austin Hyden, Caine Fair, Bryce Healy and Tommy Hopper, each of whom scored once.

Alex Germano had five saves for the Breakers.

Laguna returns nine letterman from last year’s team led by four-year varsity starter and team captain, Michael Tachovsky who anchors the Breakers defense along with returning starters Fair, Sheldon Eaton, Noah Michelon and Ian Green.

Defense again figures to be a strength for the Breakers.

Offensively, Laguna is led by Hyden and other returning starters Edgar Rabadan, Tommy Hopper, David Clausen, Tim Folton and Bryce Healy.

Laguna reached the second-round of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs last year.

Breakers earn respect in rankings

When the Laguna Beach girls’ water polo team opens its 2007-08 season Monday, it will do so with a No. 2 ranking.

The Breakers begin the season at No. 2 in the first CIF-Southern Section Division II pool of the season. They are behind top-ranked Villa Park.

Last season, Laguna finished runner-up to Agoura for the division title.

The top-ranked teams in the top three divisions are Foothill (Division I), Villa Park and Whittier (Division III).

The division rankings:

Division I: 1. Foothill; 2. Montebello; 3. Newport Harbor; 4. Long Beach Wilson; 5. Corona del Mar; 6. Los Alamitos; 7. Edison, 8. El Toro; 9. Irvine; 10T. Santa Margarita, Upland.

Division II: 1. Villa Park; 2. Laguna Beach; 3. Palos Verdes; 4. Dos Pueblos; 5. Santa Barbara; 6. Agoura; 7. Dana Hills; 8. Ventura; 9. Thousand Oaks; 10. Royal.

Division III: 1. Whittier; 2. Ayala; 3. Riverside Poly; 4. Chino Hills; 5. Temple City; 6. Los Osos; 7. Arlington; 8. El Rancho; 9. Downey; 10. Upland.
