MacGillivray to receive Arts award

Arts Orange County has announced that Laguna Beach resident Greg MacGillivray is one of the winners of the Cultural Legacy Awards.

MacGillivray, John Koshak, and Phil and Mary Lyons will be honored for their lifetime of dedication to the arts at the Annual Arts Orange County Awards Dinner on Sept. 24 at the Balboa Bay Club.

MacGillivray’s film career has spanned 40 years. As a cinematographer, he is credited with shooting more 70 mm film than anyone in cinema history. His Laguna Beach company has been dedicated to the large screen motion picture format since the production of the IMAX Theatre film, “To Fly!”

MacGillivray, known for his artistic and technical innovation, initiated the development of three cameras for the IMAX format. He has been nominated for an Academy Award for both “The Living Sea” and “Dolphins.”

The company’s film about climbing the world’s tallest peak, “Everest,” became the first large-format film ever to reach Variety’s Top 10 box office chart. MacGillivray Freeman Films is currently releasing “Grand Canyon Adventure.”

Blue Laguna Restaurant opens

The Blue Laguna Restaurant & Lounge will celebrate its grand opening at the Holiday Inn on July 19.

From the entrepreneurs behind L.A.’s Blue Moon Lounge, the Blue Laguna offers patio seating, a lounge and restaurant.

The restaurant will feature live music, happy hours, and specialty nights.

The Blue Laguna will serve Tapas-style Small Plates as well as entrée portions of California-casual, fine dining cuisine, using locally produced and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant will serve food until 1:30 a.m.

The bar boasts a large tequila selection, extensive beer collection with local and domestic brews, and a selective wine list, as well as specialty cocktails created by Blue Laguna mixologists

The Blue Laguna will offer nightly live entertainment from rock-spinning DJs, to live performers ranging from Latin to jazz, and will support the local music scene. Specialty nights include Locals Monday, with 50% off selected food items; Countdown Tuesday, featuring food and drink specials with local jazz; Stock Market Wednesday, with drink prices fluctuating on demand, making cocktails into hot commodities.

The Blue Laguna is also available for private parties and offers competitive rates, specials and discount-package rates. The restaurant is located at the Holiday Inn, 696 S. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach.
