The Mesa Verde Classic Golf Tournament is coming up Jan. 19 at the Mesa Verde Country Club.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the Costa Mesa United foundation, which is raising money to help pay for the renovations of sports fields at four city schools.
City Manager Allan Roeder will be recognized at the tournament for coming up with the idea of creating a plan to restructure and renovate the fields.
Organizers are hoping the event can pull in $200,000 for the effort. The project, which has an estimated seven-figure price, may have trouble finding funding as the city continues to cut expenses out of the budget.
Registration and a putting contest begin at 8:30 a.m. and the tournament starts at 10:30 a.m. A reception and dinner will follow at a cost of $200 per person.
