Temple Bat Yahm in Newport Beach, the largest synagogue in Orange County, will celebrate its special “Double Chai” (36th) Anniversary on Saturday, May 2, 2009 from 4:00-9:00 PM with a day of family activities, nostalgic displays, magic shows and a Human Spell-Out.

Over 500 people are expected to mark this historic milestone for the Temple. In Jewish tradition, the number 18 (“Chai”) symbolizes “life” and this Double Chai Celebration will bring together founding members of the Temple as well as the newest families. The occasion marks the 36th Anniversary of the founding of the Temple and of its Religious School.

According to Debbie Margolis, Chair of TBY 36, “This will be a truly joyous occasion for our Temple community as we demonstrate our Temple theme of ‘Strength of Tradition, Warmth of Community.’”

Rabbi Mark S. Miller, spiritual leader of the congregation for over 30 years, as well as founding Rabbi Harry Scherer will be present. Rabbi Miller will lead a special celebration program and also lead a discussion of the Symbols of the Chapel.

The highlight of the program will be a “Human Spell-Out” as all 500 people form “TBY 36” on the campus lawn while an aerial photo is taken.

For the children, there will be a video arcade, food from the fabulous TK Burger Truck, a commemorative tile project and a show by Magic Castle Magicians.

For the adults, there will be a “36 Years of TBY” photo and video exhibit, Silent Auction, dinner catered by Stonefire Grill, a “Wine Pull”, music and dancing and the introduction of the “Double Chai Cocktail.” The Magic Castle magicians will do a closing performance which will include a (reluctant) Rabbi Miller.

Tickets are $36 for adults and $18 for children. Please RSVP to (949) 644-1999.
