District 62 Tournament of Champions results

The Ocean View Cubs were perfection for four innings of their Little League District 62 Tournament of Championships Majors division opener Saturday.

Steven Gingery threw three perfect innings, followed by one perfect inning by Chad Minato, and the Cubs shut out the Costa Mesa American Angels, 10-0, in an Area 1 game halted by the mercy rule at Huntington Valley Little League.

Offensively for the Cubs, Minato and Chase Nelson doubled, Jacob Haffner, Patrick Pockels and Brian Smallshaw each had an RBI hit and Ryo Takada and Jerritt O’Brien also had hits. Luke Williams and Kiefer Klaetsch scored for the Cubs.

The Tournament of Champions continues with semifinal round play at 5:30 today at both Huntington Valley and Robinwood Little League in Majors, Minor A and Minor B. Division championship games are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Huntington Valley. The Junior League final is 1 p.m. Saturday at Robinwood.

Minor B Division

Ocean View Rockhounds 10, Costa Mesa Twins 0: A second-inning double by Nicholas Lambert put the Rockhounds on the scoreboard and sent them on their way to a tournament-opening victory Saturday.

The Rockhounds put up five more runs in the third inning with Jeremy Schneider, Edward Pelc, Harry Dean, Cole DiMarco and Lambert all scoring. Dean also had a key defensive play in the third. The Twins threatened with bases loaded in the top of the fourth, but with DiMarco working the mound and backed by his defense, the Rockhounds got out of the jam without allowing any runs.

Ryan Putman doubled and Jakob Fell tripled for the Rockhounds.
