Born in Los Angeles on Dec. 7, 1922, Allen was a professor emeritus at Pasadena City College, an author and humanitarian. Allen and Virginia raised their children in Altadena and also resided in La Canada before retiring to Newport Beach. He was honored by the Los Angeles Dodgers and KTLA-TV for the countless hours he spent bringing joy to everyone from hospitalized kids to senior citizens.
