DUI checkpoint slated for Friday

Newport Beach police will conduct a DUI checkpoint Friday night on Dover Drive and 16th Street.

Between 7:30 p.m. and 3 a.m., officers will be stopping cars on northbound Dover Drive to check for drunk drivers and various vehicle code violations, the Newport Beach Police Department said in a news release.

Police chose Dover and 16th because of its proximity to bars and restaurants, officials said in the release. Funding for the checkpoint was provided by the state’s Office of Traffic Safety.
