GLENDORA — Freshman outside hitter Aimee Malone had a match-high 19 kills as the Pirates swept Wednesday’s nonconference match, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22.

Katherine Wichner added 12 kills for OCC (4-1). Kimya Jafroudi had 40 assists and Andi Frisina added 18 digs.

Citrus fell to 2-3.

The Pirates play host to San Bernardino Valley on Friday.

Vanguard 5, Soka 0

COSTA MESA – Five players scored goals to help the eighth-ranked Lions win their fifth straight match Wednesday.

Teresa Warner, Kristin Thuve, Ivana Mendez, Danielle Dintino and Anna Tedeschi each recorded goals for Vanguard (6-1-1).

The Lions, who have shut out their last four opponents, did not allow Soka a shot in the match.

COSTA MESA — Kyle O’Brien had a hat trick by halftime and scored four goals overall for the Lions in Wednesday’s match.

Kevin Cornwall also had a hat trick for Vanguard (5-0-1), ranked No. 5 nationally in the NAIA. The Lions play at No. 12 Azusa Pacific at 1 p.m. Saturday.

COSTA MESA — Sergio Cortes scored three goals for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday.

Benn Burnett and Teddy Bandaruk added two goals each for OCC. Goalie Mike English recorded 11 saves for the Pirates.
