Edna Louise (Morgan) Cates was a white-haired beauty who demonstrated throughout her lifetime, how to age graciously. She passed away in her home from Alzheimer’s disease-relate issues. Edna, a recent widow, had been married to her sweetheart, Carrol (Smokey) Cates, for nearly 64 years. She began her married life as a home economics teacher and was known for her good cooking, love of gardening, patience and Christian faith.

Edna is survived by her two daughters, Coleen Smith and Ann Herberts, and her four grandchildren, Kyndra McGregory, Natalie Smith-Howard, Curt Herberts III and Marianne Justus. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Nana” or “pinky” as she loved to wear bright pink clothes. She had just become a great grandmother with the birth of Lake Kathryn Herberts the night before she passed.

A family graveside ceremony will be Oct. 2 at Pacific View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer’s Assn., 17771 Cowan, Suite 200, Irvine, CA 92614, are appreciated.
