Water district names top officials

COSTA MESA — The Mesa Consolidated Water District has named Fred R. Bockmiller Jr. and James F. Atkinson as the district board’s respective president and first vice president, district officials said in a news release.

Bockmiller, a Newport-Mesa native, has lived in Costa Mesa since 1988. According to the release, he first was elected to the water district’s Board of Directors in 1996. He represents the district’s Division 1, made up of Westside Costa Mesa. He has completed four terms as the board’s first vice president, the release said.

Atkinson was elected to the board in 1998. He previously served as president in 2002, 2003 and 2008, and as first vice president in 2001, and 2005 through 2007.

Founded in January 1960, the district suppliers more than 110,000 customers with water in an 18-square-mile zone. The district serves the city of Costa Mesa, parts of Newport Beach, and some unincorporated sections of Orange County, including John Wayne Airport, the release said.
