Barbara Frandsen (DeeDee) of Corona del Mar passed away peacefully at age 88. Her last days were filled with the love and presence of family and friends.

Barbara was born in Alhambra, California where she grew up attending Ramona School, Alhambra High School and Pasadena City College. At Ramona School she first met LeRoy Frandsen. They were married in 1942 in New York City while LeRoy attended the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point. During their 57 years of marriage they made their home in Pasadena, San Marino, Pittsburg PA, and Newport Beach. Their summer residence since 1963 in Bayshores, Newport Beach, became their permanent home upon retirement in 1985. LeRoy passed away in 1999 and Barbara later made her home in Corona del Mar.

Barbara and LeRoy raised their son and two daughters in Pasadena and San Marino where Barbara was active in the CF Foundation, Assistance League and National Charity League. Barbara was a loving and involved grandmother to her 5 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, and great-granddaughter. She cherished her grandchildren and they were devoted to her.

Barbara loved to travel and visited many parts of the world. Lake Tahoe, Hawaii, and Bass Lake were favorite vacation spots. Barbara’s husband and children all attended USC and she was an enthusiastic USC football fan. Her son and two grandchildren attended the Univ. of Oregon and she also loved watching the Ducks.

The lives of Barbara’s family and friends were enriched by her remarkable kindness and thoughtfulness. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Mark and Katherine Frandsen of Lake Oswego, OR; daughter Devon Syme of Mission Viejo; daughter and son-in-law Lesley and Roy Dahlen of Palos Verdes Estates; grandchildren Lauren Frandsen Scalora, Kristen Frandsen, Shannon Syme Sutsos, Stacey Syme Olson, Case Dahlen, Nicholas Dahlen, Kelley Dahlen; great granddaughter Hailey Olson; brother and sister-in-law Clark and Audrey McQuay of Pacific Palisades; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 8, at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Coast. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Hoag Hospital Foundation, 500 Superior Avenue, Newport Beach, CA 92663.
