Reinhardt wins ‘Cupcake Wars’

Casey’s Cupcakes, which recently opened a Laguna Beach location, has won the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars,” according to a news release from the business.

Casey Reinhardt beat out three other contestants with her Lavender Cake cupcake recipe, according to the Food Network website.

Reinhardt will win $10,000 and a showcase for her products at the 50th anniversary of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Reinhardt grew up in Laguna Beach and was featured on the MTV reality show, “Laguna Beach, the Real Orange County.”

She is the daughter of Kelly and Duane Roberts, who own the Historic Mission Inn in Riverside, where her original cupcake shop is located. She opened a location in Laguna Beach on Feb. 14.

“This month has been amazing,” Reinhardt said in a news release. “We continue to receive so much support at the cupcake boutique at the Historic Mission Inn, and we’ve been welcomed with open arms in our new location in our hometown of Laguna Beach. This success has gone well beyond my expectations and I could not be happier.”

To celebrate her win, Reinhardt will be on hand at both Casey’s Cupcakes locations Saturday. She will visit with customers from noon until 1 p.m. at the Laguna Beach store, 303 Broadway, and will be at the Mission Inn from 3 to 4 p.m. There will be live entertainment and special offerings featuring the winning cupcake recipes.

Massoudi new Chief of Staff at hospital

Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach has named neurosurgeon Dr. Farzad Massoudi chief of staff for 2011. Massoudi will serve in the position throughout this year, according to a news release from Mission Hospital.

Massoudi was nominated by his peers and will be responsible for the self-governance of the medical staff at both hospital campuses.

Massoudi is known as an inventor of medical devices for spinal implants and the field of robotic surgery for brain and spine tumors, according to Mission.

Massoudi is president of the Orange County Neurosurgical Associates in Laguna Hills. He received his doctorate in medicine from Georgetown University.

Alcohol server training set

The Laguna Beach Police Department will host an alcoholic beverage server training class from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 31 at Laguna Beach City Council Chambers, 505 Forest Ave., according to a news release from the department.

Training will be provided in conjunction with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence-Orange County Community Alliance Network, and Gene Barnes of the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Control. Lunch will be available. For more information, contact Coleen Walloch at (949) 497-0382.
