Man airlifted to hospital after he stopped breathing

Laguna Beach and Orange County lifeguards helped save a man who stopped breathing at Tablerock Beach on Aug. 26, according to the Laguna Beach Fire Department.

A bystander reported to lifeguards that an adult male who appeared to be in his 30s was not breathing.

After Laguna Beach firefighters and lifeguards resuscitated the victim, he was transported by helicopter to Mission Hospital Mission Viejo, Division Chief Dan Stefano said.

[This corrects an earlier version that said lifeguards could not resuscitate the victim.]

He was listed in critical condition at the time, but is now in stable condition, Stefano confirmed.

High school girls extracted after rollover crash

Two Laguna Beach High School students were involved in a rollover crash on Park Avenue on Tuesday morning.

At 10:56 a.m., police received a 911 call regarding a single-vehicle accident in the 1200 block of Park Avenue, according to Lt. Jason Kravetz. A black Toyota Scion had rolled over and was resting upside down.

The female occupants, 16 and 17 years old, were extracted from the vehicle and taken to Mission Hospital Mission Viejo. Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Kravetz said.

One of the girls had a laceration on her hand with the bone exposed, according to the Police Department logs.

Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
