A Costa Mesa woman was killed Wednesday in an early-morning crash in Newport Beach, according to a press release issued by the Orange County coroner.

Angelina Paz, 45, was killed at 3:34 a.m. when the car she was riding in struck a light pole on southbound MacArthur Boulevard south of Vilaggio. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, said Kathy Lowe, a Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman.

Another passenger was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, but her name, condition and other information were not available.

The driver, a male, declined medical treatment, officials said. His name was not released.

Police officers are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Lowe said the investigation could take weeks. Information about whether the victims were wearing seatbelts was not known, she said.

Police issued a traffic advisory earlier this morning, advising motorists to avoid the area until 8:45 a.m. while investigators clear the scene.
