Charles Patrick Catanese

Charles Patrick Catanese, son of Assunta and Antonio Catanese passed away March 31, 2012 after a long illness. He was one of seven children, born September 15, 1918 in Rochester, PA.
Charles attended Rochester High School in PA and is a graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He received his Masters degree from Kent State University, Ohio. He also attended Long Beach State University and the University of Southern California, where he did post-graduate work in School Administration.
He served as a Lt. Commander in the Navy in World War II and the Korean War and remained in the military reserve for a total of 31 years.
He taught public school in Minerva, Ohio and Costa Mesa, CA. He had served as Director of Personnel for Newport-Mesa Unified School District and at his retirement was principal of Sonora Elementary School.
Chuck was a life member of the Newport Harbor Elks. Also a member of the Knights of Columbus and past commander of the American Legion, Post 0455.
He had two daughters; Barbara and Susan. Barbara passed away in 1993. He had two grandchildren; Lida and Bejan, three great-grandchildren, Bejan, Jr., Kody and Megan and one great-great grandson, Daniel. He had one stepdaughter, Diane.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Nancy. They enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world.
Services will be held at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church, 1964 Orange Avenue, Costa Mesa on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 11 a.m.
