Newport police locate man with dementia

Newport Beach police have located a 78-year-old man with dementia who was reported missing early Monday.

With the help of a police volunteer, Gordon Gilbert Breecher was found around 5:50 p.m. that day in a ravine near the Back Bay. He was evaluated by paramedics, said Newport Beach police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe.

Lowe added that she believed he was unharmed and taken back to his family.

He had apparently walked away from his Eastbluff home and became lost.

Police had asked for the public’s help in finding him.
