Barbara Ward Aune

Barbara Ward Aune died peacefully at age 87, in her beloved “Villa Montana” home October 21, 2012. She had called Newport Beach home for 62 years. She was known as the real estate lady with the hat!

She was born in Clinton Montana to Sidney and Zoe Ward on December 28, 1924, the youngest of six children who grew up in a rustic one room cabin. She graduated from Missoula High in 1943 and went to the University of Montana where she was an active member of Delta Gamma.

In 1946 she married Arthur Aune in Missoula. His military service brought the young couple to California where they later divorced.

Barbara’s passions included her love of people and homes and selling residential real estate allowed her to build a successful career that blended both. She started with Ruth Pardoll, went to Macnab Irvine which became Prudential where she ended her career.

Her community ties were strong and local organizations Children’s Home Society, National Charity League and South Coast Repertory were a few of her cherished causes.

Barbara’s true spirit of adventure and an appreciation of family and friends will live through her many relationships. She will be missed by daughter Terry Callahan (Bob) Balboa Island, son Rick Aune (Sandy) Fresno, grandchildren Heather Cracraft (John) Colorado, Kelly Hanes (Alexis) Texas and Taylor Aune (Bekah) Santa Monica, her great grandchildren Austin and Abigail Cracraft and baby Hanes due in 2013, and four nieces and a nephew.

Barbara was predeceased by siblings Sid, Sam, baby Zoe, Elizabeth, George and great grandchild Christian Hanes.

Each year her family will toast the New Year with a serving of black eyed-peas and remember her parties where no invitation was needed - friends and family knew Barbara would have quite a celebration to start the year together. Cheers to a truly strong and amazing woman who touched many many lives!

Her family wishes to thank Sheila and Ann who cared for her so lovingly in this last year.

A celebration of life service is scheduled for 1PM Saturday November 17 at St Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 3233 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar. A reception will follow at her home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Circle 1000, Hoag Hospital Foundation to honor Hoag’s Cancer Center and the extra 17 years of life Barbara enjoyed under their care or to St. Michael and All Angels.
