Dennis Rodman ordered to pay $500K in back child support

A new chapter can be added to the long-running soap opera “As the Worm Turns.”

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman has been ordered to pay $500,000 in back child support to his ex-wife, her attorney said, and Orange County Superior Court Commissioner Barry Michaelson warned Rodman that he could be sent to jail if he doesn’t pay it.

Dennis, a former Newport Beach resident, and Michelle Rodman must still work out custody and visitation for their two children: a son and a daughter.

A trial is set for Jan. 24 on those issues.

Michelle Rodman was asking for $850,000, but the two sides met outside court and agreed to $500,000, which Michaelson approved.

Linnea Willis, the attorney for the former Chicago Bulls star, told the Associated Press that Rodman was also found in contempt of court for paying too little child support.

Willis said Rodman was not present at a November 2010 hearing where he was ordered to pay additional child support and was not properly served the documents with the new order, resulting in several months of underpayment.

“He’s been complying with the court orders ever since he found out the correct information,” Willis said.
