Parking deal to help Montage employees

Employees of the Montage Laguna Beach have another place to park their cars.

The Orange County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved an amendment to an existing parking lease the hotel had with a local church.

Laguna Beach United Methodist Church officials were in discussions the past three months with resort staff about renting 20 parking spaces at the church for Montage employees, pastor Doug Williams said.

The church, at 21632 Wesley Drive, is a half-mile south of the Montage.

The spots are just “for employee parking; we’re not looking to make it a parking lot,” Williams said.

The county previously leased 33 parking spaces on the church property. The county trimmed the number of spaces it uses to 13.

The county’s Health Care Agency has occupied office space at the church since September 1984 for its Children and Youth Services program, according to a staff report.

The program provides mental-health services to emotionally disturbed children and counseling to their families.

The program has used only a limited number of parking spaces due to rolling appointment times and limited number of staff, according to the report. The county occupies 3,800 square feet of the church, including use of the kitchen and meeting rooms at no charge.

Williams didn’t provide projected revenue now that the spaces will be rented to the Montage because he said discussions are ongoing.

A Montage spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

The Health Care Agency’s rent is now fixed at $4,611.25 per month or $1.21 per square foot through Nov. 20, 2015, according to the staff report.

The new agreement saves the county $6,107 for the remaining two years of the lease term.
