Thurston dedicating talent show to McMurrays

Thurston Middle School students are dedicating their annual talent show to William McMurray, who is suffering from a brain tumor called brain stem glioma.

William’s parents, Sabrina and Michael McMurray, are owners of the Penguin Cafe, and William would have entered Thurston this year.

Tickets are $10 and available at the Artists Theatre box office before the show. A Facebook page has been set up to support William, https://www.facebook.com/WilliamAidenMcMurrayMemoriesPage.

Locals given honor of Eagle Scout

Thirteen Laguna Beach youth were given the highest Boys Scout honor, that of Eagle Scouts by the Orange County Boys Scouts of America. Jeffrey White Jr., John Kimball, Trenton Caserio, Cristian Menes, Noah Olsen, Zane Cornwell, Wesley Olsen, Benjamin Kahn, Cole Kesler, James Yorke, Elias Cerdas, Alecsander Niccum and James Karas II.

Requirements to become an Eagle Scout include being a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout who has been a Life Scout for more than six months, according to a news release. Candidates also must demonstrate leadership qualities by completing a service project, must have earned 21 merit badges, complete an Eagle Scout Board of Review with the scout’s district, council and troop leaders.

High school hosting college and career fair

Laguna Beach High School will host its Community College and Career Technical Education Fair from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the high school’s library at 625 Park Ave.

The fair gives students and parents the chance to evaluate and explore such options by meeting representatives from community colleges, technical schools, companies and other organizations. Representatives from the high school’s Scholarship Foundation also will be on hand to distribute information about scholarships for community colleges, trade and vocational institutions.

The following groups are expected to attend: Irvine Valley College, Orange Coast College, Saddleback College, Musicians Institute, Academy Of Couture Art, The Art Institute of California–Orange County, Paul Mitchell The School, Fashion Institute Of Design & Merchandising (FIDM), Brooks Institute, Army ROTC, Marines Corps ROTC and Santa Ana College.
