F.V. woman arrested after fatal crash

A woman in her 20s was killed Sunday in Garden Grove when the vehicle she was in hit a telephone pole and then a building, authorities said.

Ariel Johnson, 21, of Lake Forest, was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday morning, after driver Shauna Ahyen, 21, of Fountain Valley, veered off the road, Garden Grove Police Lt. Jeff Nightengale said.

Johnson was one of three occupants of a vehicle driven by Ahyen, who is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and DUI, Garden Grove police said in a statement.

The car was headed north on Brookhurst Street near Imperial Avenue at 3:28 a.m. when it ran off the road.

Ahyen and an additional passenger were taken to a hospital for their injuries.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Investigator Adam Zmija at (714) 741-5847.
