Laguna Beach police have not released the name of the driver of a Tesla that crashed into a Honda Accord, killing two men on their way to work on Laguna Canyon Road on April 2.

“The reports are getting written,” Sgt. Louise Callus said Thursday. “These things take time.”

Accident investigators returned to the scene of the head-on collision, near El Toro Road, on Tuesday to conduct follow-up research.

They used computer-assisted technology to measure and map out locations of the crime scene evidence to help determine how the collision occurred, police said.

Laguna Canyon Road was closed in both directions from El Toro Road to the 73 Toll Road for several hours for the investigation.

The crash occurred before 7 a.m. April 2. A Tesla heading outbound from Laguna Beach veered into oncoming traffic and hit the Honda Accord.

Alberto Casique-Salinas, 46, of Anaheim, and Armando Garcia-Gonzales, 38, of Santa Ana, were inside the Honda Accord and died at the scene, according to police.

The driver of the Tesla told dispatchers a “white Mercedes cut him off, causing him to head into oncoming traffic,” as first reported by the Laguna Beach Independent.

Because of the ongoing investigation, police have not released the name of the Mercedes driver, Callus wrote in an email.

The driver of the Tesla had minor injuries, police said.

The Laguna Beach Police Employees Assn. has set up a fund on behalf of the victims’ families. Checks should be made out to the Alberto and Armando Memorial and sent to: LBPEA, P.O. Box 4611, Laguna Beach, CA 92652.
