GWENDOLYN ORTIZ
Gwendolyn Luetta Ortiz was born November 15, 1921, in St. Petersburg, Florida, to Robert C. and Hazel (Burd) Thurlow. She died Sunday, June 14, 2013, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 91 years. After graduating high school, Gwendolyn continued her education completing nurses training in Rumford, Maine. She later earned her Bachelor’s Degree at The Redlands, in California. She was married April 7, 1954, in New York City, to Samuel V. Ortiz. Gwendolyn spent most of her working life as a registered nurse and caring for her family. Even in her later years she gave much of her time as a caregiver. She was a member of the American Nurses Association and the St. John the Baptist Altar Society in Costa Mesa, California. She recently made her home in Owasso, Oklahoma, where she was active with the Owasso Senior Center. Gwendolyn enjoyed a variety of pastimes, especially dancing, even learning ballroom dancing.

She was preceded in death by her husband Sam, and her brother, Lance Thurlow.
Gwendolyn will be taken to San Diego, California, to be interred with her husband at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso, Oklahoma
