Man tries to stab 2 people at deli

An unidentified suspect tried to stab two people at a Subway sandwich shop in the 2700 block of Newport Boulevard at about 2:55 a.m. Friday in Newport Beach, according to police.

A group of people at the restaurant got into an argument with a man who pulled a knife and then tried to attack two people, Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said.

He failed to hurt anyone, Manzella said, and fled before officers arrived at about 3 a.m.

Manzella said she couldn’t say whether the incident took place inside or outside the Subway.

Detectives are still investigating and interviewing members of the large group that was present, she said.

No further description of the suspect was available.
