Public meeting about trash pickup

Share

Two Newport Beach City Council members will review the ongoing debate over how trash should be collected in the city at a community meeting Wednesday night.

Community group Speak Up Newport will host council members Leslie Daigle and Tony Petros for a discussion about the City Council’s decision Sept. 10 to outsource trash pickup, according to a news release.

Many residents have voiced concerns about replacing the current service offered by city employees. As it stands, residents can discard all manner of items and use bins of their choice for weekly curbside pickup. They say they like this service and the personal relationships they have developed with their trash haulers.

Daigle and Petros will explain how other options might compare.

The free public event will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. at the community room of the Newport Beach Civic Center, followed by the program at 6 p.m.
