Irvine woman dies after being struck by car

A 79-year-old Irvine woman was struck by a car and killed in the University Town Center in Irvine on Friday, police said.

Hedy S. Chou was walking on a private road in the area at about 10:30 a.m. when she was struck by a Toyota Highlander driven by a 44-year-old Irvine woman, according to a news release from the Irvine Police Department.

Officials transported Chou to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead, police said.

Police are investigating the crash, and asked anyone with information to call Det. Jonathan Cherney at (949) 724-7024.
