Crash shears utility pole on Laguna Canyon Road

Share

No one was injured when a car struck and sheared a utility pole along Laguna Canyon Road early Thursday morning, Laguna Beach police said.

A 25-year-old Laguna Beach resident was headed home about 3:30 a.m. when he fell asleep and his 2006 Pontiac Vibe veered off the road and struck a utility pole in the 20400 block, Capt. Jason Kravetz wrote in an email.

The bottom 12 feet of the pole broke off and landed in a grass median while the rest of the pole remained attached to its structure by three wires, Kravetz said.

The car had major damage to the front end, but the driver was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, according to Kravetz.

Laguna Canyon Road remained open while Verizon Wireless representatives repaired the damage. Power to the surrounding neighborhood was not interrupted, Kravetz said.

Stu News Laguna first reported the story.
