Pedestrian injured in hit-and-run accident

Laguna Beach police identified the pedestrian who was hit by a car on Laguna Canyon Road earlier this week, authorities said.

Shahram Mokarami-Tehrani, 51, remains in critical condition at Mission Hospital Mission Viejo, Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email Thursday.

Mokarami-Tehrani, whose last listed address was a Corona del Mar P.O. box, was found lying in the road early Monday morning, an apparent victim of a hit-and-run, according to police. Mokarami-Tehrani was recently staying at the Alternative Sleeping Location, an overnight emergency shelter in Laguna Canyon, authorities said.

Dispatchers received a call at 3:21 a.m. Monday about a man lying in the road near Big Bend, Callus said.

The caller saw the man in the roadway while driving north on Laguna Canyon Road.

Northbound traffic was diverted around the scene for four hours, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact police at (949) 497-0701.
