2 arrested after officer spots stolen truck

A Costa Mesa woman was arrested over the weekend in connection with the theft of a truck, authorities said.

Officer Matt Selinske was driving through a neighborhood near Wallace Avenue and Wilson Street shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday when he saw a white Dodge Ram parked with its brake lights on, according to a news release from the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Selinske entered the vehicle's license plate number into his computer and found that the truck had been reported stolen the week before. He followed the vehicle as it turned in to an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Pomona Avenue, according to the release.

Police arrested Cassaira Simmons, 49, on suspicion of vehicle theft.

The truck's passenger, Lenore Arthur, 22, of Costa Mesa, was determined to have no connection to the vehicle theft, but was arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia and concealing or attempting to destroy evidence, the release stated.

Simmons is being held in Orange County jail on $20,000 bail, according to the release. Arthur was released on her own recognizance.

The truck was returned to its owner.
