Key Oilers: Sr. QB Brady Gardner (83 of 156 passing for 872 yards, five TDs and six INTs; 71 rushing yards); Sr. TE/OLB Christian Moore (32 catches for 272 yards; nine tackles, three tackles for a loss and one forced fumble); Sr. DT Michael McCormick (42 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, four sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery); Sr. FB/DE Brandon Bova (49 carries for 149 yards and one TD; three catches for 44 yards; 45 tackles, 20 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, one INT and one forced fumble)

Breakdown: Huntington Beach (2-8) travels to take on Empire League champion Cypress (10-0) in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 7 playoffs on Friday at Handel Stadium … The Oilers have reached the playoffs for the third time in Brett Brown’s four years as the head coach. Huntington Beach has not advanced out of the first round since 2013, when it went on the win the Southwest Division championship in beating Newport Harbor 42-28 at Angel Stadium in 2013 … Fourth-seeded Cypress already has its most wins since 2009, when the Centurions went 11-2 under Ray Fenton. Centurions coach Rick Feldman, in his sixth year, has also matched Fenton (2005-09) for the most coaching wins in program history with 40.
