College Roundup: UC Irvine women’s basketball loses to Cal State Northridge

Dani Guglielmo had 18 points for the UC Irvine women’s basketball team in a 56-51 loss to Cal State Northridge in Thursday’s Big West Conference game at Bren Events Center.

Haleigh Talbert had 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Anteaters (5-13, 1-3 in conference). Sophia Locandro chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds.

UC Irvine hosts Long Beach State on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Vanguard 61, The Master’s 60: Vanessa Murphy had 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists to lead the Lions to an upset over the top-ranked Mustangs on Thursday in a Golden State Athletic Conference game on the road.

Victoria Chea added 13 points, six assists and five rebounds for Vanguard (14-2, 7-1 in conference), which is ranked fifth in the NAIA. Sierra Vaglica also had 12 points, six rebounds and three steals. Tristen Rollon chipped in with 10 points and three assists.

The Master’s (19-1, 7-1) had a 20-game home winning streak snapped.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Master’s 80, Vanguard 76: Isaiah Gentry had 22 points and four rebounds to lead the visiting Lions on Thursday in a Golden State Athletic Conference game.

Jonah Tolmaire added 13 points, four assists and four rebounds for Vanguard (10-10, 3-5 in conference). Masie Mohammadi had 11 points, three assists and three steals.

Christian Wilson contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
