High School Roundup: Edison boys’ basketball clinches share of Surf League title

Luke Serven had 17 points and five three-pointers, helping as the Edison High boys’ basketball team beat Corona del Mar 70-46 and clinch at least a share of the Surf League title on Friday at home.

The Chargers (17-10, 4-1 in league) have league one game remaining.

Trey Wilborn scored 13 points for Edison, and Connor Collins had 11.

Efe Gucoglu had 16 points for Corona del Mar (16-10, 1-4).

Edison can clinch the outright league title with a win at Newport Harbor (3-2 in league) on Wednesday.

Laguna Beach 54, Fountain Valley 49: Nolan Naess had 23 points as the Breakers clinched the outright Wave League title Friday at Laguna Beach High.

Willie Rounaghi added 10 points for Laguna Beach (19-7, 5-0).

Roddie Anderson scored 13 points for Fountain Valley (14-8, 3-2), which also clinched second place in league after Huntington Beach beat Marina on Friday.

Huntington Beach 59, Marina 48: The Oilers picked up their first Wave League victory Friday night at Marina High.

Huntington Beach improved to 6-20 overall, 1-4 in league.

Marina is now 10-17 overall, 1-4 in league.

Estancia 68, Orange 48: The Eagles clinched the outright Orange Coast League title with Friday’s win at Orange High.

Estancia is now 23-3 overall, and 8-0 in league.

Los Amigos 59, Rancho Alamitos 50: Christopher Gonzalez scored 18 points for the Lobos in Friday’s Garden Grove League road game.

Brian Pacheco added 13 points for first-place Los Amigos (16-8, 7-1 in league).

The Lobos can clinch at least a share of the league title with a win at home against Loara on Tuesday.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Huntington Beach 48, Marina 20: Andie Payne had 15 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots to lead the visiting Oilers on Friday in a Sunset Conference crossover game.

Nicole Palmer scored nine points for Huntington Beach (21-5). Akemi Tanga had eight points.
Marina is now 7-20 overall.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Laguna Beach 15, Los Alamitos 5: Nicole Struss scored seven goals for the Breakers in the quarterfinals of the Irvine Southern California Championships tournament on Friday at Woollett Aquatics Center.

Molly Renner added three goals for the top-seeded Breakers (23-1), who will play Santa Barbara San Marcos in the semifinals Saturday at 10 a.m.

Mater Dei 7, Newport Harbor 5: The No. 2-seeded Sailors were upset in the Irvine Southern California Championships quarterfinals Friday at Woollett Aquatics Center.

Newport Harbor (18-6) plays Orange Lutheran in a fifth-place semifinal match Saturday at 9 a.m.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Fountain Valley 2, Laguna Beach 1: Sebastian Rus scored twice for the Barons on Friday in a Wave League match on the road.

Fountain Valley (8-6-3, 4-0-1) clinched at least a share of its first league title since 2008. The Barons could claim an outright league championship with a win or tie at home against Marina on Wednesday.

Laguna Beach dropped to 6-10-2 overall and 1-4 in league.

Huntington Beach 3, Marina 0: Will Macy, Josh Lucas and Carson Dykes each scored a goal for the visiting Oilers on Friday in a Wave League match.

Huntington Beach (8-7-4, 3-1-1) needs a win at home against Laguna Beach on Wednesday, combined with a Fountain Valley loss to Marina, to earn a share of the league championship.

Marina fell to 7-10-3 overall and 1-4 in league.

Estancia 2, Orange 1: Marcos Arreola and Felix Solis scored for the visiting Eagles on Friday in an Orange Coast League match.

Estancia improved to 4-11-6 overall and 3-2-3 in league.

Saddleback 1, Costa Mesa 0: The Mustangs fell to 4-9-7 overall and 2-2-4 in league following Friday’s road contest.

Los Amigos 2, Rancho Alamitos 2: Edgar Cachu and Brandon Alfaro scored in the second half for the Lobos in Friday’s Garden Grove League match on the road.

Anthony Gutierrez also made five saves for Los Amigos (8-2-5, 5-1-2).

Garden Grove 4, Ocean View 0: The host Seahawks had their string of five consecutive ties come to an end on Friday in a Golden West League match.

Ocean View fell to 5-9-8 overall and 2-1-5 in league.
