College Roundup: Vanguard men’s golf finishes fourth at Arizona Christian University Spring Invitational

Bryce Johnson led the Vanguard University men’s golf team to a fourth-place finish in the Arizona Christian University Spring Invitational on Tuesday at Moon Valley Country Club in Phoenix, Ariz.

Johnson tied for ninth individually with a three-round total of 223, including a six-over-par 78 in his final round.

Tyler McDaniel tied for 13th in the two-day tournament with a 225, and Titus Goodman (227) tied for 16th.

Vanguard returns to action March 13 with a tri-match against Occidental College and the University of La Verne at Tustin Ranch Golf Course.

Orange County Collegiate Classic: UC Irvine tied for fourth at the season-opening tournament Tuesday at Coto de Caza South Course.

Jonathan Kang led the Anteaters with a three-round total of five-over-par 221, which tied him for sixth individually. Ramiz Jamal (224) tied for 21st, while Anthony Truong and Chris Casey tied for 33rd at 228.

The Anteaters’ 54-hole combined score of 900 tied for fourth with UC Santa Barbara and Santa Clara. Cal State Fullerton and San Francisco shared the team title.

BASEBALL

Golden West 12, Cerritos 3: Enrique Bennett went four for six with a triple and three runs batted in to lead the visiting Rustlers on Tuesday in a nonconference game.

Logan Gallina also had a double and three RBIs for Golden West (4-7). Vinny Tosti had two hits, including a home run, and three runs scored.

Connor Freire threw five scoreless innings to improve to 1-0 on the season. He allowed four hits, striking out six and issuing four walks.

Long Beach City 6, Orange Coast 4: The host Pirates allowed three runs in the late innings on Tuesday in a nonconference game.

Chase Hanson had a two-run home run for Orange Coast (2-5). Oscar Favela and Justin Brodt each drove in one run. Drew Baltruweit had two hits, including a double.
