College Roundup: UC Irvine men’s basketball tops Long Beach State

Tommy Rutherford had 16 points and nine rebounds for the UC Irvine men’s basketball team Wednesday night in a 70-55 Big West Conference win over Long Beach State at Bren Events Center.

Eyassu Worku and Evan Leonard each had 15 points and three assists for first-place UC Irvine (18-10, 10-2 in conference), which clinched a spot in the Big West Tournament.

The Anteaters play at Cal State Northridge on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Orange Coast 110, Golden West 108: Myles Woods had 36 points off the bench for the Pirates in Wednesday’s Orange Empire Conference rivalry game at home.

Jonathan Ileleji added 33 points for Orange Coast (5-22, 2-13 in conference).

Justin Kirksey paced Golden West (3-24, 1-14) with 26 points.

SOFTBALL

Golden West 5, Orange Coast 2: Lali Rios was three for four with three runs batted in for the visiting Rustlers in Wednesday’s Orange Empire Conference game.

Kendall Kallsen was four for four with two runs scored for Golden West (6-3, 1-1 in conference).

Janae Gomez went three for three with an RBI for Orange Coast (2-4, 0-2).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Golden West 51, Saddleback 44: Abigail Guerrero had 20 points to help the Rustlers earn their first Orange Empire Conference win Wednesday at home.

Kimberly Mancillas added 12 points for Golden West (4-19, 1-10 in conference).

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

El Camino 3, Orange Coast 0: Will Anderson had 13 kills for the Pirates but host El Camino swept 32-30, 25-18, 25-16 in Wednesday’s nonconference match.

Caden Saterfield added 10 kills for OCC (2-4).
