College Roundup: UC Irvine men’s basketball drops regular-season finale to Cal State Northridge

Brad Greene had a team-high 14 points to go with 11 rebounds and two blocked shots, but the UC Irvine men’s basketball team dropped its regular-season finale 72-70 to Cal State Northridge on Wednesday night at Bren Events Center.

Evan Leonard added 13 points and two blocks for UCI (21-11, 13-3 in Big West Conference). Collin Welp had 13 points and seven rebounds, Tommy Rutherford added 12 points, and Eyassu Worku chipped in with eight points and five assists.

The Big West Tournament will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim from March 12-14.

SOFTBALL

Santa Ana 8, Orange Coast 0 (five innings): Emily Rosas struck out three and walked none in a no-hitter for the host Dons on Wednesday in an Orange Empire Conference game.

Orange Coast fell to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Cypress 8, Golden West 1: Kaylee Canto had a hit and a run batted in for the visiting Rustlers on Wednesday in an Orange Empire Conference game.

Melissa Tapia also had a double for Golden West (8-9, 1-5 in conference).

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Grossmont 3, Golden West 0: Nathan Goode had a match-high 19 kills and 12 digs for the visiting Rustlers, who lost Wednesday’s nonconference match 25-23, 25-21, 26-24.

Brendin Chandler produced 32 assists, and Mike Sofley also had 13 kills for Golden West (5-5).
