Estancia High senior center Jake Covey earned the Orange Coast League MVP award in boys’ basketball after helping the Eagles win their first league title since the 2004-05 season.

Covey averaged 16 points and nine rebounds per game for Estancia (27-4, 10-0 in league). He was joined on the first team by Eagles senior guards Brandon Pearson and Marvin Harry, as well as Costa Mesa freshman guard Christian Dasca.

The Estancia trio guided the Eagles to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 5AA playoffs, the program’s first quarterfinals appearance since the 2004-05 season. A 19-game winning streak ended there, as No. 2-seeded Estancia was upset 49-46 at Santa Barbara Bishop Diego.

Dasca, the younger brother of 2019 graduate Nico Dasca, led Costa Mesa (9-19, 4-6 in league). The defending league champion Mustangs were younger this year, and they finished tied for fourth in the league and failed to qualify for the Division 4AA playoffs.

Estancia senior forward Arthur Bishop and junior point guard Larry Andres earned second-team All-Orange Coast League honors.

Costa Mesa senior wing player Hugo Menendez was also a second-team selection.
