High School Roundup: Newport Harbor girls’ basketball stays unbeaten

Willa Rath had 15 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the Newport Harbor High School girls’ basketball team to a 57-38 win over Northwood on Saturday in a nonleague game at home.

Emma Coatsworth had nine points and eight rebounds, Cydney Jover contributed nine points and five assists, and Chase Dionio compiled seven points, six rebounds and five assists for the Sailors (2-0).

Daelyn Renee also had nine points and two steals, and Ellie Robinson scored six points for Newport Harbor.

Laguna Beach 43, Estancia 23: Adriela Sandoval had a team-high seven points for the host Eagles in Saturday’s nonleague game.

Alexis Orellana added five points for Estancia (0-3).

Laguna Beach improved to 3-5 overall.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Laguna Beach 70, Yucaipa 39: Nolan Naess scored 26 points to lead the host Breakers in Saturday’s nonleague game.

Jackson Sirianni had 15 points, and Willie Rounaghi chipped in with 13 points for Laguna Beach (5-0).

SOFTBALL

Estancia 14, Portola 5: Dillon Morgan had a home run and two runs batted in to lead the visiting Eagles in a nonleague game on Friday.

Lena De La O had three hits and reached base five times, and Sierra Butterfas struck out six in a complete game for Estancia (1-5).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Estancia 3, Orange 2: Outside hitter Ryan Ray had a team-high 21 kills to lead the Eagles to a 23-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-9 come-from-behind victory on Friday in an Orange Coast League opener at home.

Setter Logan Richards handed out 29 assists, middle blocker Nathan Sweet had 11 kills and three blocks, and outside hitter John Uchytil provided 24 digs and four service aces for Estancia (1-0).

Middle blocker Brodi White also contributed four blocks.

FOOTBALL

Santa Ana 66, Costa Mesa 7: The Mustangs were routed in Friday’s Orange Coast League game at Costa Mesa High.

Costa Mesa returned to action after canceling a league game against Orange last week because it didn’t have enough healthy players.

Costa Mesa (0-4, 0-1 in league) closes out its season next Friday at rival Estancia in the Battle for the Bell game.

Los Alamitos 62, Fountain Valley 9: The Griffins led 55-0 at halftime of Thursday’s Sunset League game at Huntington Beach High.

Los Alamitos (5-0, 4-0 in league) clinched at least a share of the league title.

Fountain Valley (0-5, 0-4 in league) closes out league against Corona del Mar on Friday at Newport Harbor High.
