The top-seeded Newport Harbor High School boys’ water polo team defeated La Jolla 20-10 in the first round of the CIF State Southern California Division I regional playoffs on Tuesday.

Newport Harbor (26-5) plays host to No. 4-seeded Studio City Harvard-Westlake (24-6) on Thursday at 5 p.m. Harvard-Westlake beat San Diego Cathedral Catholic 16-14 to begin the regional playoffs.

Huntington Beach 20, Los Angeles Loyola 8: The No. 2-seeded Oilers rolled past the visiting Cubs on Tuesday in the first round of the CIF State Southern California Division I regional playoffs.

Huntington Beach (20-3) will remain at home to face No. 3-seeded Mater Dei (25-3) in the semifinals on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Carlsbad 3, Newport Harbor 0: Emma Fults had a team-leading 10 kills, but the Sailors were swept 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 on Tuesday in the CIF State Southern California Division II regional final.

Quinn Perry had eight kills, and Anabel Kotzakov added five kills for Newport Harbor (29-9).

Top-seeded Carlsbad (24-11) advances to face No. 2 Larkspur Redwood (29-6) in the Division II state championship match at Santiago Canyon College on Saturday at 4 p.m.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Ocean View 68, Long Beach Rancho Dominguez 41: Senior Chico Lopez had 29 points to lead the host Seahawks in a Jim Harris Classic game on Tuesday.

Ocean View (1-1) also had junior Cole Kenrich score 12 points, while Rancho Dominguez saw senior Luke Chibueze go for 12 points, too.

Estancia 50, Anaheim 39: The Eagles were victorious in their season opener at home in a nonleague contest on Tuesday night.

Estancia will compete in the San Gabriel Tournament next week.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

El Modena 34, Estancia 28: The Eagles dropped to 1-1 in their season-opening appearance at the Los Amigos Tournament on Tuesday.
